Council has an exciting opportunity to join the Development Servies team as a Senior Town Planner. This role will be responsible for providing planning and development advice and services within legislative requirements and best practice to achieve a sustainable future for Cabonne. As well as delivering efficient and timely determination of Development Applications (DA’s) and delivery of Subdivision Certificates and Strategic Town Planning.
This role is a full-time role, based out of the Molong office.

The operation does not require shift work or rotational rostering, instead working Monday to Friday, providing flexibility for the perfect work/life balance. The position operates over a 35 hour week with a 9 day fortnight.

Role Purpose
- To ensure that all statutory requirements are met and that Council’s interests and integrity are protected.
- Assist with the development and implementation of strategies and programs to protect and preserve the heritage of Cabonne.
- Carry out the daily supervision of the Town Planner, supporting and providing technical advice as necessary.
- Preparation of minor amendments to Cabonne Local Environmental Plan.
- Develop strategies to ensure the Cabonne Local Environmental Plan reflects the current community’s needs.
- Enforcement provisions of planning legislation, plans and development management practices.
- Strategic planning necessary to achieve sustainable land management and economic growth.
- Guide decisions on Construction Certificates, Occupation Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and compliance matters, and to proactively be involved in resolving issues in a team environment.
- Issue various planning certificates and negotiate amendments to applications which are deemed necessary to mitigate adverse environmental impacts.
- Provide a high level of customer service, responding promptly to enquiries.
- Ensure customer service requests are followed through and the actions and outcomes are adequately documented with electronic notes within Council’s records system.
- Compliance matters resulting from developments assessed or as required.
- Keep up-to-date records of application progress and report status and utilise Council’s computerised data management system.
Qualifications:
Essential
Bachelor or Urban and Regional Planning, or related field
- Class C driver’s licence.
Skills & Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in town planning or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years experience performing a similar role as a Senior Town Planner
- Extensive practical experience in development assessment under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act including assessment of complex development matters
- Sound practical understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, and other relevant legislation and regulations
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management and staff at all levels of the organisation and with external contacts
- Excellent negotiation and presentation skills
- Superior ability to resolve complex planning issues with applicants for development and excellent customer service skills
- Ability to meet deadlines with possession of excellent time management skills
- Demonstrated understanding and commitments to WHS and EEO principles across all activities within the organisation

- This position is graded 12 ($1955.20 - $2105.60 gross per week).
