About the role

The role enables the City of Hobart to fulfil its statutory requirements in relation to land use planning as part of a team of planners, heritage experts and development engineers. As a Development Appraisal Planner, you will play a crucial role in proactively engaging with applicants and assessing planning applications against the requirements of the planning scheme.While the focus of the role is on statutory planning assessments, there is some scope for considering broader urban design issues for those proposals which are considered by our Urban Design Advisory Panel.

Role accountabilities include:

  • Assess planning applications submitted under the City’s prevailing planning schemes, draft reports and recommendations on planning applications.
  • Provide information and advice to the general public, prospective applicants and developers relating to opportunities and constraints on the use and development of land within the City of Hobart.
  • Represent the City at appeals in the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal

Essential:

  • Bachelor Degree (or higher qualification), and relevant experience, to satisfy the eligibility requirements to be a Full Member of the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
