About the role

The Division Manager, Development and Compliance is a full time position reporting directly to the Director of the Planning and Environment Department and based at the Moruya Administration Office. As a Division Manager, you will provide leadership for your Division and as part of the Level 3 Managers Team, contribute to major organisational projects and initiatives.

Your main duties will include:

  • Contribute to the development of strategies both at the Directorate and Organisational levels, assuming financial accountability for the development, monitoring and achievement of the Division’s budget.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders, advise builders, developers, architects, agencies and the community, providing corporate and technical information and/or professional direction and clarifying Council’s requirements on planning, development, building and environment policies and practices.
  • Coordinate the assessment of the more complex public and environmental health, compliance and regulatory matters and coordinate representation of council in resolving issues associated with complex matters.
  • Report to and advise Council, Committees, Executive and other public meetings/forums as required on significant issues related to operations of the Division.

Salary Information

An attractive salary package will be negotiated with the successful candidate, inclusive of a cash component, Division Manager Allowance, fully maintained Council salary packaged vehicle (including full private usage) and 11.5% superannuation.

Appointment to this position is subject to the following:

  • A satisfactory outcome as a result of a National Criminal History Record Check.
  • Medical clearance to verify that you are safely able to undertake the duties of the position.

About you

You will possess strong professional leadership qualities, ready to lead and manage the Development and Compliance team. You will be highly organised and possess expert knowledge of relevant planning, building, engineering, public health and environmental legislation. You will bring with you a compliance focus with the ability to listen, interpret and convey information in a clear and accurate manner.

You are highly motivated and thrive in a busy work environment where priorities are regularly shifting, requiring you to be agile and flexible. Our ideal candidate will be driven to confidently guide staff and ensure statutory requirements and Council standards are maintained to achieve a safe, well-designed built environment in an ecologically sustainable manner.

Your application will further demonstrate the following:

  • Degree in either Town Planning, Civil Engineering, Applied Science (Environmental Health), Building Surveying, or equivalent enabling membership with relevant professional associations.
  • High level of demonstrated practical experience in Local Government or similar organisation at a management level with highly developed leadership and representational skills.
  • Capacity to operate in a high level collegial and collaborative role as a member of a management team with an organisation wide perspective.
