Temporary full time - up to three years

Salary: $90,623 to $101,416 per annum (based on 70 hours per fortnight), plus superannuation and a 9 day fortnight

Appointed salary in this range will be based on skills, qualifications, and experience.

This innovative and exciting role will establish and manage the newly created Waste Volunteers Program. You will be responsible for delivering all aspects of the Volunteer Program and the Waste Volunteer Strategy. Working to ensure community participation and annual program delivery, you will be part of Council’s Waste Strategy, Projects and Education Team.

About us

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces.

About the role

The position will:

  • Recruit, induct, train, manage and support community volunteers
  • Establish and manage the Waste Volunteers Hub
  • Implement the Waste Matters Volunteer Strategy
  • Monitor, evaluate, document and report on of all aspects of the Program
  • Promote the Waste Volunteers Program internally and externally and communicate the objectives, outputs and successes of the Program to a wide variety of audiences

About you

Qualifications

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in community development, environment, sustainability, natural resource management or demonstrated equivalent experience are required

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong demonstrated experience in all aspects of volunteer recruitment, supervision, training and management
  • Sound understanding of community and stakeholder engagement, education and or communications, preferably in a waste management, sustainability or natural resources context
  • Sound working knowledge of local government services, practices and principles
  • Demonstrated strategic planning, strategy implementation, research, policy development and program design capabilities
  • Demonstrated project management across all stages including: scoping, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting aspects
  • Proven ability to work across a broad range of education and communication mediums and to develop quality education collateral and support materials including print, web and social media and to deliver face to face activities and to plan and coordinate events, functions, networks and represent council
  • Extensive demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills, and sound problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver required outcomes and to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
