YOUR ROLE

As an Apprentice Horticulturalist you be involved in a combination of theoretical and hands on learning, this role is a 4-year temporary term contract that will consist of full-time work with a 100% Council funded course, on conclusion of this course you will have obtained a nationally Recognised Qualification, Certificate III in Horticulture Parks & Gardens.

YOUR WORKING ENVIRONMENT (for eligible employees)

•    A 38-hour working week, over a 9-day fortnight.
•    4 weeks paid annual leave.
•    Access to 3 weeks sick leave per year, cumulative where unused.
•    Access to 2 health and wellbeing days as part of annual sick leave.
•    Annual salary T4 (first year) $41,769.52 to T7 (final year) $54,191.28 per annum plus 11.5% Superannuation.

YOUR CAREER

•    4 Year Temporary Term Contract that results in a Nationally Recognised Qualification.
•    Full time employment working 38 hours per week.
•    100% funded by Council including tuition fees, textbooks and other related expenses.
•    Attendance at CIT during work hours.
•    A supportive environment and qualified Horticultural team to mentor you through your apprenticeship.
•    You will earn a Certificate III in Horticulture Parks & Gardens
•    A variety of work from gardening, planting, maintenance of gardens, cemeteries, setting up sporting grounds for events, mowing fields to line marking etc, traffic control for council events.

THE POTENTIAL TO OBTAIN THE FOLLOWING LICENCES AND TICKETS THROUGHOUT YOUR APPRENTICESHIP

•    Chain saw. 
•    Traffic Control.
•    Powerline Accreditation.
•    Heavy Rigid Truck driving licence.
•    Asbestos Awareness.
•    White Card (construction induction card)
•    Chemical Storage and Handling.
•    Heavy Machinery Experience.

YOUR HOME

Yass Valley Council is a local government organisation employing over 150 staff. Yass Valley Council (YVC) is managed by the Chief Executive Officer and three Directors. This management team ensues the continued delivery of excellent services and optimum infrastructure to residents and visitors. The three divisions of Yass Valley Council are Corporate and Community, Planning and Environment, and Infrastructure and Assets.

The Infrastructure and Assets Division comprises of Engineering Services, Water and Wastewater, Roads Delivery and Maintenance Delivery. The role of Apprentice Horticulturalist is located within Maintenance Delivery Parks and Gardens Team.
