About the opportunity

We have an exciting 12-month term contract, full-time opportunity for a Trainee Environmental Health Officer to join our team and gain industry experience. Working within our Environment section, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met.

The successful applicant will:

  • provide local places and spaces that are clean and healthy and turn awareness and commitment into action to halt or reserve the effects, pressures and threats on the built and natural environment by working in collaboration with our community and other stakeholders
  • develop and participate in the implementation of projects, strategies, policies, guidelines and procedures that align with this commitment, specifically environmental health.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Enrolled in a relevant tertiary qualification in an environmental health field for the duration of the traineeship
  • Current class C driver's licence.

Desirable:

  • Sound knowledge of, and experience in, current environmental health issues
  • Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations, write correspondence, complex reports, grant applications and award submissions
  • Computer literacy in basic Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn corporate applications
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • 35-hour working week
