Applications are invited from enthusiastic and genuinely interested employees for the full-time vacancy of Biosecurity Officer to be based within our Gundagai Office.

This is a diverse role that would appeal to someone who has a passion for land protection, control processes and engaging with the community. This opportunity will provide the successful candidate with the perfect balance between field and office-based work and is integral in delivering Council’s weeds programs.

You will be a proactive individual with excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Have initiative and ability to work autonomously, with the flexibility to plan your own work schedule, while also able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team where required.

You will also have experience in the identification and control of various priority weed species, including the appropriate and safe application of herbicides and pesticides, the ability to keep records, compile reports and update Council Information Management Systems, including mapping.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Ensures Council’s compliance with the Bio-security Act 2015, by conducting regular inspection control of all Council lands, and assisting in the development implementation of management
  2. Ensure public compliance with the Bio-security Act 2015, by conducting regular inspections of all public land and assisting in the inspection of private rural properties.
  3. Ensure private landholders within the Shire are made aware of their obligations to control or remove priority weeds through assisting with ongoing consultation and education.
  4. Ensure timely and effective delivery of weed control programs.
  5. Ensure use of appropriate application safety and health requirements during the application of weed control chemicals.
  6. Interpret the regulatory framework and issue biosecurity undertakings or directions if required throughout the Local Government Area
  7. Identify new and emerging invasive weeds within LGA.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $1,186.90 to $1,388.99 gross per week.
  • 11.5% superannuation.
  • 9 day fortnight working arrangement.
