In this role you will be responsible for ensuring Councils water servicing aligns with best practice, the oversight of the Drinking Water Management System (DWMS), Recycled Water Management System (RWMS) and Environmental Protection License(s) (EPL) and progressing environmental and sustainability within Council projects and operations.  This role also includes managing Council's waste management portfolio including Landfill operations and collection in line with the NSW Government's Waste Strategy.

Reporting to our Director Infrastructure and Sustainability you will lead and coach a small, multi-disciplinary team responsible for all facets of Council's water quality and sustainability section and manage Council's environmental operations and drive sustainability and circular strategies across Council's operations. Advanced interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to establish and leverage relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, will be critical to your success.

Remuneration and Benefits

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment. 

This role has been evaluated as being within Grade 19 of Council's salary structure, attracting a salary of $115,117.60 to $132,385.24 per annum, plus 11.5 per cent superannuation, with commencing salary dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • University Degree in Environmental, Civil or Process Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent disciplines.
  • Contemporary knowledge and experience in the planning and delivery of environmental and sustainability works at a management and leadership level.
  • Demonstrated experience in project and contract management.
  • Proven ability to engage with and influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve fit-for-purpose outcomes that drive the achievement of strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including influencing and negotiation, research, information analysis and report writing to facilitate planning, decisionmaking and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated staff management experience, with a proven track record leading, developing and supporting staff to achieve work targets and objectives efficiently and
    effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a small, multi-disciplinary team and proven ability to effectively manage people, performance, projects, budgets, contracts and risk.
  • Excellent standard of IT literacy and advanced computer and software skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite of applications.
  • SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card).
  • Current and maintained NSW Driver’s Licence.
