ABOUT THE ROLE

The Leading Hand is required to lead an on-site Work Team in the safe and efficient delivery of road maintenance and/or construction and Council’s Roads Infrastructure Capital Works and Maintenance programs.

Employment Status:  Full Time Permanent

Award:                        Level 8 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award – State 2017

Salary Range:            $2,687.20 gross per fortnight.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:

| Essential Knowledge, skills and abilities |

  • Experience within a leading hand role within a road construction or maintenance environment.
  • Understanding of civil construction and maintenance techniques, including emerging practices and technologies.
  • Sound numeracy and literacy skills, with an ability to operate basic computer and electronic devices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance, environmental and risk management systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices, with the ability to identify, resolve and report workplace health and safety issues appropriately.
  • Experience within a Local Government environment.

| Essential Education/Qualifications |

  • General Safety Induction Certificate (Construction Industry) “Blue/White Card”.
  • Traffic Management Implementation accreditation.
  • RII certificate of competency (or equivalent) to operate road construction machinery, plant and equipment such as: Front End Loader / Backhoe / Excavator / Skidsteer Loader / Compactor /Tractor/Slasher / Roller / Grader.

| Essential Licences |

  • Possession and maintenance of a Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver Licence.

| Physical Requirements / Position Environment |

  • This position requires the incumbent to undertake field work exposed to inclement weather.
  • The ability to carry out the physical requirements of the position – manual handling, physical labour.
  • This position may be required to work weekends and/or overtime as directed.
  • This position may be required to work and camp throughout the Council region.
  • This position will require the ability to participate in an on-call roster.
