The Koala Conservation Project Officer role is responsible for progressing the objectives of the NSW Koala Program - Northern Tablelands Regional Partnership in the Southern New England Landcare region.

Key responsibilities

With support from Southern New England Landcare, the successful candidate will:

  1. Work with project partners, rural landholders and community members to progress the objectives of the NSW Koala Program - Northern Tablelands Regional Partnership.
  2. Coordinate and maintain regular meetings of the Project Advisory Committee.
  3. Contribute to and complete tasks under the Project Implementation and Work Plan.
  4. Produce relevant extension and educational materials relating to koala conservation.
  5. Coordinate and facilitate community field events, capacity and training programs.
  6. Collate known data sources for koalas and their habitat in the region.
  7. Support the Landholder Management Agreement Project Officer.
  8. Seek additional funding for koala conservation initiatives.
  9. Use the Salesforce CRM to record relevant project information.
  10. Work in a safe and responsible manner and comply with Southern New England Landcare’s Health & Safety, Employment, Code of Conduct and other policies and procedures.

Selection criteria

Essential 

  1. Demonstrated successes in working with rural landholders.
  2. Demonstrated successes in working with multi-disciplinary teams and/or project steering committees.
  3. Demonstrated ability to coordinate forums and events.
  4. Demonstrated ability to prepare successful grant applications.
  5. Project management skills.
  6. GIS and mapping skills.
  7. Demonstrated well-developed written and oral communication skills, including competence in the common software packages.
  8. Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  9. Ability to work unsupervised.
  10. Current driver’s license.
  11. Willingness to use your own mobile phone.

Desirable 

  1. Demonstrated knowledge, experience and dedication to Koala conservation theory and practice.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of Landcare in the Southern New England.
  3. Group facilitation skills.
  4. Own vehicle.

Attendance at meetings outside of normal work hours may be negotiated. Travel around the region and infrequent travel and overnight stays intra state may be required.

You may be required to use your own mobile phone and vehicle for work purposes and provide us with evidence of comprehensive or at least third-party property insurance for your vehicle. Vehicle use will be reimbursed on a per kilometer basis and phone calls will be reimbursed on presentation of appropriate records.
