THE POSITION
This position will operate and maintain water pumping, treatment and reticulation equipment to clarify, purify and deliver water for domestic and commercial consumption, and operate wastewater (sewage) treatment, sludge processing and disposal equipment to control the flow and processing of wastewater.
Reporting to the Coordinator Integrated Water Services you will:
- Operate all aspects of both the water and wastewater treatment plants, including chemical dosing systems, pumps and valves and monitors the condition of water and wastewater treatment plants and equipment and performs routine maintenance and repairs at pre-determined intervals or as required to ensure efficient operation.
- Test water samples during and after water treatment to determine pH, chemical levels and other data, and record data on operating sheets in accordance with Council and legislative requirements.
- Observe variations in wastewater treatment operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements.
- Maintain a log of operations and record meter and gauge readings during water and wastewater treatment operations to determine turbidity, flow rates, temperature, rainfall and other data.
- Operate a variety of mobile plant and equipment, including utilities, trucks, forklift and backhoe, in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with relevant laws, regulations and guidelines, and with regard to the safety of members of the public and other employees.
- Ensure that all work conforms to required safety standards, including the completion of site specific risk assessments and safety training for employees and contractors, installation and maintenance of safety signage, proper maintenance of equipment, and implementation of Work Method Statements and Traffic Control Plans.
- Instruct and Assess trainees in all aspects of water and wastewater treatment, including plant and equipment operation, treatment procedures, laboratory techniques, record keeping and safety measures.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Specifically, you will have:
- Certificate 3 in Water Industry Operations (Water and Wastewater Treatment) or equivalent
- Experience operating and maintaining water and/or wastewater treatment plants and associated services
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and procedures and accurately record data in written and numerical form
- Minimum Class C driver’s licence – HR (Heavy Rigid) preferred
- Safe Work NSW Certificates in WHS General Induction for Construction (White Card)
- Ability and willingness to participate in a weekend work roster when required
