About the Opportunity
Council has an exciting opportunity in its Fleet and Depots team as Senior Mechanic based out of Council's Cudal Depot.
The position will be responsible for carrying out maintenance and repairs of Council's mobile and fixed plant and equipment, fault finding and diagnostics to assist in the prevention of breakdowns or unexpected down time of machinery.
Working in a small team, led by a supportive and proactive management team, you will be provided with support and training in line with Council's values to learn the role and ensure our workers are resilient, adaptive and are able to perform to Council and community expectations.

The operation does not require shift work or rotational rostering, instead providing flexibility for the perfect work/life balance. The position operates under a 38 hour week with a 9-day fortnight in place, with opportunity for overtime.

Position Activities
Work as a member of a team to undertake mechanical duties to assist in relevant works including:
- Perform routine and scheduled maintenance tasks including inspection and servicing of heavy plant and equipment, trucks and light vehicles with minimum disruption to works and construction activities.
- Perform accurate fault diagnosis and obtain parts and materials (where applicable), required to perform repairs.
- Promptly report any major faults or anticipated faults or breakdowns to the Plant Superintendent.
- Effectively communicate and liaise with the plant operators to identify problems, maintenance and service requirements.
- Actively assist in the supervision and work instruction of the daily activities of the mechanics and apprentices.
- Effectively relieve in the position of Plant Superintendent as required.
What Do You Need to Be Successful
Essential
- Tertiary Trade Qualifications in plant mechanics or related field.
- Construction Induction (White Card).
- Class C driver’s licence.
Skills and Experience
- Relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of various fleet, heavy earthmoving plant and machinery together with the ability to diagnose and rectify mechanical faults.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse, diagnose and solve mechanical problems especially with diesel heavy earthmoving machinery.
- Ability to manage time, set priorities and organise own work and that of subordinate employees.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Demonstrated effective problem solving skills.

- Employment is under the Local Government (State) Award 2023
- This position is graded 7 in Council's salary system.
- Gross weekly wage range is $1310.10 to $1410.90 dependent upon qualifications and experience.
