Development Engineer

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD. The role 

North Sydney Council is seeking a highly motivated Civil/Structural Engineer to oversee the approval and inspection of civil engineering works. You will manage hoarding applications, address regulatory issues and evaluate development applications to ensure compliance with engineering standards related to stormwater management, vehicular access, and traffic management are met. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess development applications and construction certificates to align with Council and community needs, ensuring statutory compliance.
• Process applications efficiently, focusing on timely approvals and minimizing complaints from developers, builders, and residents.
• Monitor civil engineering and building works, ensuring compliance with required standards and maintaining Council infrastructure while minimising long-term maintenance liabilities.
• Review and determine hoarding applications in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policy, prioritising public safety.
• Provide accurate and consistent advice, maintaining open communication and minimizing complaints.
• Conduct inspections of development works to ensure compliance with approval conditions and manage bond refunds effectively.

Salary Range: $101,174 to $120,810 per annum + 3.5% Civil industry allowance + 11.5% superannuation + $1,000 pa transport allowance
