About the Opportunity

The Development Engineer is responsible for providing preparing and delivering advice on engineering matters including assessment of development applications and policy development.

You will be:

  • Assessing and deciding Operational Work applications in accordance with the requirements of the Planning Act 2016 (PA) and other State legislation, the relevant planning scheme, local government infrastructure plans and Council’s local laws, policies and procedures;
  • Preparing and delivering advice and recommendations on engineering matters, including assessment of development applications;
  • Assisting and advocating with industry to deliver fit for purpose development infrastructure that will continue to meet Council's needs in the future
  • Reviewing and analysing specialist engineering reports (Stormwater, Flooding, Traffic Impacts etc) and provide recommendations;
  • Advising and assisting Council with policy development in relation to development engineering and operational works, including infrastructure/network planning and the framework for financial contributions for trunk infrastructure;
  • Undertaking project work that contributes to Council's Development Assessment system;
  • Conducting in field inspections and assessments of aspects of operational works to ensure compliance with approvals, standards and legislative requirements;
  • Ensuring works approved under Operational Work approvals are constructed in accordance with Council and relevant industry standards;

This role is a full time position, working 36.25 hours per week with a fortnightly RDO or Compressed working arangment as negotiated. Option to work from home as negotiated.

About yourself

It is mandatory for a person in this position to hold a relevant four (4) year Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from a recognised University.  A Membership of Engineers Australia is required or ability to obtain membership within 12 months of appointment. It is also highly desirable for the successful candidate to have a minimum of 5 years' experience in Development Engineering, prior practical experience in Local Government and registration as Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or registration on the National Professional Engineers Register.

It is also necessary for the successful candidate to have:

  • A current OH&S Construction Safety Induction White Card;
  • A current Class C Drivers Licence.
