The City of Salisbury's Field Services Department is dedicated to maintaining Council's essential infrastructure, ensuring that public spaces and assets remain safe, functional, and inviting. This comprehensive service includes the maintenance of buildings, workshops, fleet, and stores; civil infrastructure such as drainage, footpaths, and waste management; and the care of parks, landscapes, and open spaces. Specialized teams handle everything from arboriculture and turf management to pest control and security, while also responding to emergencies and maintaining contracts for features like reserve maintenance and cemetery services. Field Services plays a crucial role in supporting a vibrant and sustainable community.
About the Role:
As an Arboriculture Team Member, you will play a vital role in the maintenance and care of Council's tree assets. From pruning and removal to storm recovery, your work will help ensure the safety, aesthetic, and health of our community's green spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform tree maintenance duties, including pruning, removal, screen maintenance, formative care, branch collection, and storm event recovery.
- Operate and maintain equipment safely, including trucks (MR), brushwood chippers, elevated work platforms (EWP), and chainsaws.
- Ensure the upkeep of tools and machinery in a clean and safe condition.
- Follow traffic management standards and safety protocols to provide a secure environment for the community.
- Accurately document work using digital technology.
- Collaborate positively with the team and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support other field services tasks as required to meet seasonal and operational demands.
To be successful within this position you will have:
- Minimum MR Truck Licence
- Certificate III (or equivalent) in Horticulture with Arboriculture experience
- Chainsaw Operation certification
- EWP Licence
- Experience using brushwood chippers and elevated work platforms
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills
- Knowledge of safe work practices
- Proficiency in literacy, numeracy, and record-keeping
- A positive attitude and a strong sense of teamwork
