Service Description

Operating within the Sustainability and Development Service area of Council, the Environment and Sustainability program delivers services and advice in line with Council’s Land Use Planning Strategy Demographics and plans.

The program coordinates strategic land use planning and projects to support Council in the implementation of sustainable growth and development strategies that are aligned with the future aspirations of our community.

The program also educates and endorses compliance programs (e.g. Rangers and Companion Animals) throughout the Council area.

Position Profile

The primary purpose of the position is to care for and manage stray or abandoned animals found in public places or surrendered by animal’ owners and be responsible for the day to day operation of the Armidale Companion Animals Shelter. Council has always had a strong focus on rehoming Unclaimed and surrendered companion animals kept at the shelter and has been very successful in this regard. A significant role of the position will be promoting and facilitating the rehoming of unclaimed and surrendered companion animals and maintain, where possible improving, the shelter’s rehoming rate. The position will also be responsible for operating Council’s pound complex for large animals and stock.

The position may also include other Ranger Services as required, including matters relating to the control of nuisance, menacing or dangerous dogs, straying stock, abandoned vehicles, vehicle parking, and littering, abandoned articles/items and designated environmental offences such as overgrown vegetation.
