About the position
The purpose of the position is to lead and manage Muswellbrook Shire Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Unit and to build productive relationships with industry and business to create jobs and diversify the economy.
The position will be responsible for the effective delivery of major and partnership events, economic development strategy and actions, visitor economy and tourism initiatives, innovation and STEM skills programs and business liaison.

We have the two largest thoroughbred horse studs in the southern hemisphere, a healthy viticulture industry, and a large part of the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park within the Shire. About you
- Degree qualification in business, tourism, commerce or an equivalent combination of relevant contemporary experience and/or education/training.
- Substantial industry knowledge and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of economic and tourism strategies to achieve organisational objectives.
- Demonstrated high level application of project management practices to deliver multidisciplinary projects, events and initiatives in partnership with the community, government and other departments.
- Proven experience effectively prioritising team tasks and manage conflicting demands in a high pressure, deadline driven environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to coach and support staff in the delivery and measurement of complex projects and services within defined budgets to meet organisational objectives.
- Proven ability to collect, analyse information and prepare reports and presentations to inform sound decision making and the ability to make decisions autonomously.
- High level communication, influence and negotiation skills with a strong ability to form effective working relations with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability in managing relationships including negotiation, internal and external including but not limited to industry representatives and State and Federal Government representatives.
- Proven ability to control budgets including grant funding, reporting on success measures, mentoring, performance and program outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience and/or capability to deliver the Job Specific Key Accountabilities (outlined in the Position Description).
- Demonstrated Developed key capabilities as defined in the Key Capabilities Table (outlined in the Position Description).
We offer
- Full Time 3 year Term Contract, 35 hours per week
- Salary from $138,002 to $141,542 per year (depending on qualifications, skills and experience) plus 11.5% superannuation
