The Opportunity
Reporting to the Utility Services Manager, the role of Waste and Compliance Services Coordinator presents a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact on environmental sustainability and community wellbeing.
  
A key aspect of this role is to assist the Utility Services Manager oversee and coordinate the Compliance functions of Councils waste operations. The position exercises a degree of autonomy and works under limited direction. The role provides specialist advice to management and Council on matters relating to the planning, development, rehabilitation and aftercare of Councils landfill in accordance with licence conditions and the Environment Protection Act, including all statutory requirements
  
The role coordinates the implementation of objectives and actions associated with the North Queensland Waste Strategy and for the development, implementation, and monitoring of waste management programs and processes. Other aspects of the role include conducting site visits, evaluating waste management practices, coordinating waste collection and disposal activities as well as providing recommendations for improvement.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in engineering or science or a related discipline OR lesser qualifications with a combination of on the job experience;
  • Knowledge of Queensland waste and environment related legislation and experience monitoring and implementing this legislation;
  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination of resource recovery and waste services and facilities;
  • High level written and verbal communication skills and ability to deliver expert guidance to decision makers and the broader community;
  • Experience in the design, preparation and submission of reports on waste management activities;
  • Intermediate to advanced level of experience in the use of computer systems, particularly the Microsoft suite of products and waste management software;
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, address issues and undertake a range of projects and tasks with a consistent level of professionalism; and
  • Hold and maintain a current C class driver's license

General Salary Information:

The successful applicant will be able to negotiate a remuneration based on qualifications and experience. Indicative range of $92,781-$108,134 per annum plus superannuation applies.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

Pre-employment screening includes Medicals, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Criminal History Checks to ensure capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
