North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD.

The role 

We currently have a 12-month temporary opportunity for an Urban Forest Supervisor to lead our trees team, overseeing the care, management and ongoing improvement of North Sydney’s urban forest. In this role, you’ll oversee the delivery of tree maintenance and management programs, ensuring Council’s trees and canopy cover are maintained, protected and enhanced for the benefit of the community. 

You’ll provide specialist arboricultural advice, oversee contractors and projects, manage tree-related requests and development applications, while contributing to the implementation of Council’s Urban Forest Strategy and Street Tree Strategy. 

Working collaboratively with teams across Council, contractors and the community, you’ll help drive best practice in urban forest management, deliver effective services and contribute to a greener, more sustainable North Sydney.

The person 

You’re an experienced arboriculture professional with strong technical knowledge and a proven ability to lead and supervise teams in a busy operational environment. You bring excellent people management, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, along with experience managing projects and external contractors.

You bring a practical, solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to provide expert arboricultural advice and navigate complex issues while prioritising workplace safety, excellent customer service and high-quality outcomes. The ideal applicant will hold a Certificate IV in Horticulture (Arboriculture) or equivalent, a current driver’s licence, and have the computer skills needed to support effective service delivery.

Salary Range from: $114,979 to $137,295 per annum + 12% superannuation + Tool-of-Trade Leaseback vehicle
