Diesel Fitter – Motor Mechanic

Salary: $78,876.7252 p/a (Base Salary)

Location: Thursday Island

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, this key organisational position will be responsible for the effective repair and maintenance of Council’s vehicles, heavy plant, machinery and the overall activities located throughout the Shire.

The individual we are seeking will be a highly skilled professional who is a team player working proactively in a busy work environment. You will need to be able to work autonomously as well as in a team.

Ideally, the successful applicant will have: -

• Qualification as a Diesel Fitter or Automotive Mechanic.

• Experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy earthmoving plant and machinery.

• Above average general knowledge of mechanical procedures and techniques.

• Perform “Hands On” repairs and maintenance of a variety of plant typically associated with Local Government operations.

• Demonstrated communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills together with good literacy and numeracy skills.

• Ability to acquire knowledge of Ailan Kastom and traditional languages.

• An understanding of Local Government context and local issues.
